The visual arts have a long and proud tradition on the Mississippi coast, with a history that includes the eccentric “Mad Potter of Biloxi,” George Ohr, whose works are displayed at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi, and the celebrated painter and print-maker, Walter Anderson Inglis, whose vibrant works can be seen at the Walter Anderson Museum in Ocean Springs.

Out and About

Coastal Mississippi boasts 62 miles of scenic coastline with 26 miles of sugar-white beaches. The Gulf Islands National Seashore, which includes Mississippi barrier islands and a stretch of coastal wilderness in Ocean Springs, features sparkling blue waters, coastal marshes, winding nature trails, and Ship Island’s historic Fort Massachusetts. While the coast’s seasonal ferry service to Ship Island ends in October, Mississippi’s barrier islands can be accessed by private boats and charters year-round.

Reel Fun

The Mississippi Sound, located just between Mississippi’s coast and its barrier islands, is an ideal location for deep-sea fishing due to the variety and quality of fish present in its estuary habitat. Anglers can hook red drum, flounder, sea trout, redfish, and more. Look for an experienced, state-licensed fishing charter to equip you and take you to the right spots where the fish are biting.
