Mississippi Freedom Trail

The Civil Rights Movement, from 1954 to 1968, is remembered as a time of inspirational leaders and everyday heroes who fought against oppression and injustice to secure freedom and equal treatment under the law for African Americans. The Mississippi Freedom Trail unveiled its first marker in 2011 on the 50th anniversary of the Freedom Rides, a nonviolent series of protests targeting segregated seating on public buses, and more markers are added each year.
