Visit Mississippi Unveils Mississippi Country Music Trail Marker Honoring Camp Shelby

Hattiesburg, Miss. — Visit Mississippi recently unveiled a Mississippi Country Music Trail marker honoring Camp Shelby.

Camp Shelby began welcoming country music stars in the 1970s to perform for troops at the conclusion of annual training sessions. The new marker commemorates those memorable performances and the enduring connection between music and support for those who serve our great nation.

Camp Shelby hosted the 2025 Mississippi National Guard Retiree Day as well as the unveiling ceremony for the Mississippi Country Music Trail marker, which included a special performance by country music legend and Mississippi native Marty Stuart.
