Mississippi Country Music Trail Marker Honors Mount Olive’s Billy Ray Reynolds

MOUNT OLIVE, Miss. — Visit Mississippi recently unveiled a Mississippi Country Music Trail marker in Mount Olive honoring the late legendary country music guitarist, singer and songwriter Billy Ray Reynolds.

The unveiling ceremony featured remarks and reflections from Lora Reynolds, Reynolds’ widow; Cliff Kelly, mayor of Mount Olive; friends and country music executives; along with live performances by James Dupré (NBC’s The Voice, Season 9) and Clay Parker & Jodi James.

Reynolds made his mark in Nashville during the rise of the “outlaw” country movement. He served as bandleader for Waylon Jennings and performed with The Highwaymen—Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson. His songwriting legacy includes recordings by Jennings, Cash, Tanya Tucker, Conway Twitty and Toby Keith.

The unveiling marked the installation of the 45th marker on the Mississippi Country Music Trail.
