The refuge grounds include a visitor center and two walking trails. The Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge is managed as part of the Gulf Coast Complex. It was established in 1975 under authority of the Endangered Species Act. Since that time, the refuge’s crane population has grown from 30 to 35 birds to approximately 200 birds at the present time.
