Bank of Yazoo City Building

The historic Bank of Yazoo City building sits at the intersection of Main and Commercial Streets in Yazoo City’s brightly colored historic main street district. The Beaux Arts-inspired building was built in 1904, shortly after a fire destroyed much of the city. (The fire was, according to local folklore, started by the Witch of Yazoo City, a legend which figured into the stories of Mississippi author, Willie Morris. The bank building, which is no longer in use, was featured in the movie O Brother Where Art Thou as the location of Babyface Nelson’s daring bank robbery.
